Miura Yuichiro On Peak in Cervinia - Hans Truöl - Original Photo Prints | Antique Skis Shop

Miura Yuichiro On Peak in Cervinia

This Hans Truol photo was taken in Cervinia, Italy in 1962. This is truly a breathtaking photograph. Even more amazing is the person standing on the peak who is none other than the Japanese skier and alpinist Miura Yuichiro. Besides holding the world’s speed skiing record in 1964 (for one day), he also became the first person to ski down Mount Everest in 1970.

This feat was documented in the 1975 Academy Award winning documentary film “The Man Who Skied Down Everest”. He later climbed Mount Everest in 2003 at age of 70, then 75, and finally at 80 years old, making him the oldest person to reach the summit.
