SOLD - Vintage Bobbie Burns "The Ski" with Spademan Bindings
These vintage Bobbie Burns "The Ski" skis are what I consider “a must” for the serious ski collector & they are in very good condition. As I skied on these in the late 70’s, they were the second pair of “The Ski” which I performed on & were part of my personal collection. The top plate & graphics have some minor scratches but are basically in great shape. Some areas of the edges show rust as well as one dent. They are 185cm long and are equiped with Spademan bindings which were also a “must have” if you were a serious freestyle skier in the 70’s. See them in action here; Long John Whisky - Cinema advert
Bobbie Burns was considered by many the first hotdogger.” Nick-named the “Snow Goose” for his loose style. By the mid-1960s he was revolutionizing the techniques of bump skiing, the concept of free skiing and the possibilities of steel thighs, noodle knees, balance and showmanship in skiing. With his long, blonde hair, unorthodox technique, unbelievable athleticism, and huge smile Burns changed the world of performance skiing, in some ways simply because he was having more fun than everyone else. He has described his skiing style as “…different because I had large cojones but no ability". After designing racing skis for K2 in the late 60’s, Burns left Seattle in 1974 and returned to Sun Valley and began making The Ski, the first ski, according to Burns, ever made in the Wood River Valley. The Ski revolutionized freestyle skiing for the masses in much the same way as Bobbie Burns revolutionized skiing for elite athletes of performance skiing. The Ski was soft lengthwise and stiff torsionally with simple blocks of color for artwork unlike anything seen in skiing before. The Ski was one of the most famous freestyle skis of the ’70s and ’80s
