Antique "PGH GESCHWENDA" Skis and Metal Poles
These are a rare pair of vintage 1950's skis made by "PGH GESCHWENDA" in Thüringer Wald, Germany. "SCHICHTEN" meaning layered wood were a breakthrough in strengthening wooden skis. They were manufactured without metal edges and equiped with "TORNADO" bindings. The 115 cm metal poles are in good condition with plastic hand grips/leather hand straps and alu/plastic baskets. These vintage pair of skis will without doubt, add some colour to your chalet.
In 1948, 26 small woodworking stores began producing poles, fences, wallpaper strips, individual pieces of furniture, ladders, balcony boxes, etc.; in 1958, the PGH “Holzwarenhersteller im Thüringer Wald” was founded with the main production: skis, gym equipment, deckchairs and playpens. Ski production in particular was perfected and achieved world renown! In 1970, the PGH “Holzwarenhersteller im Thüringer Wald” began producing plastics, primarily injection molding with assembly capacity. This required constant rebuilding and new construction of the company, along with the creation of social facilities in the company as well as modern and beautiful vacation facilities at the Saale dam and on the Baltic Sea for the employees. In 1972, the PGH “Thüringer Wald” also became a VEB, which was finally incorporated into the “Sportgeräte Schmalkalden” combine in 1976. The production profile expanded to include the manufacture of children's skis, children's toboggans and seat shells. By 1989, the company already had 290 employees. The fact that the newly founded “Kunststoff- und Holzverarbeitungs-GmbH” did not “crash land” after reunification in 1990 was thanks to the company's dedicated management team, headed by Managing Director Dieter Fischer. Today, the company is the market leader with its range of toboggans and has developed a world-first toboggan program that is characterized by innovation.
